Solid polycarboxylate superplasticizer (PCE) flakes are easy to store and cheap to ship — because they contain no water. Keep them cool and out of the sun, and they stay stable for a year or more. This guide explains the storage rules, the transport advantage, and how flake compares with liquid and powder.

Why Storage and Transport Matter

Liquid Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) is about 45% water. You pay to ship that water, and it causes problems in storage: it can freeze in winter, and over time it can grow bacteria or drift in molecular weight.

Flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) removes the water. The polymer is near 100% active, so there is no water to freeze, spoil, or pay freight on. What you store and ship is almost entirely active product.

How to Store Flakes

Flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) is simple to store. It is packed in sealed PE bags, so it does not absorb moisture or clump. Two rules cover most situations.

Storage RuleWhyWhat to Do
Keep coolHeat softens the polymerStore below 30 °C, away from heaters
Keep out of the sunUV and heat accelerate oxidationKeep bags sealed, shaded warehouse

Store the bags stacked on pallets, away from direct sunlight. If the warehouse is cool, one year of shelf life is normal.

Why Flakes Ship Cheaper

The freight saving is the main reason customers switch to solid Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE). The table below uses real container figures.

ContainerLiquid Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE)Solid Flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE)
20-foot container20 t at 55% active = 11 t active18 t at ~100% active ≈ 18 t active
40-foot container28 t at 55% active ≈ 15.4 t active28 t at ~100% active ≈ 28 t active

Because liquid is about 45% water, the same container carries about 60% more active polymer in a 20-foot container and about 80% more in a 40-foot container when you ship flakes. You are not paying to move water.

Flakes also do not freeze in winter, so cold-region shipments need no special handling.

Shelf Life

A flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) stored well keeps for at least one year. The actual life depends on local conditions.

ConditionEffect on Shelf Life
Cool, shadedOne year or more
Hot or sunnyShortens life, may soften

A simple check: if the flakes have not turned yellow (a sign of oxidation) and still dissolve cleanly in water, they remain usable. Avoid direct sunlight and high temperatures, and the product keeps long-term.

Rules to Remember

1.Keep flakes cool (below 30 °C) and out of the sun.

2.Ship in a 20-foot or 40-foot container — no heating or cooling needed.

3.Do not store next to naphthalene-based water reducers; keep product lines separate.

4.Check for yellowing before use.

FAQ

How long can I store flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE)?

At least one year if kept cool and out of the sun. Without visible yellowing, it can be used longer.

Does flake Polycarboxylate Superplasticizer (PCE) freeze?

No. There is no water to freeze, so cold-region storage and transport need no special care.

Why is flake cheaper to ship than liquid?

Liquid is about 45% water. Flake is near 100% active, so the same container carries about 60% to 80% more active product.

Can I store it outside?

Avoid it. Keep bags indoors, sealed, on pallets and away from sunlight.
